Raku-yaki is usually built up by hand instead of being turned on the wheel and is characterised by coarse materials that have to withstand strong temperature fluctuations during the firing process, the typical crackle pattern and often also by black or red glazes
Example of a raku bowl with crane painting from Markus Hastenpflug's collection of individual pieces (r64).
